Human Resource Benefits

The University System of Georgia provides competitive benefits that are affordable for all benefits eligible employees and their eligible dependents. The program provides a strong base of coverage and allows you to choose the plan(s) and the level of coverage that best meet your needs.

Albany State University shares the cost of most benefits with you and gives you the opportunity to supplement your coverage with certain voluntary plans such as dental, vision, USG Accident Plan, USG Indemnity Plan, USG Critical Illness Plan, life insurance, legal insurance, health savings account, flexible spending account, pet insurance, short/long term-disability plan, and our "new" Identity Protection Plan.

As an added incentive, the University System of Georgia provides additional benefits for employees such as the Employee Assistance Program, TAP (Tuition Assistance Program), USG Well-Being Program, Purchasing Power and USG Perks at Work.  Live Health Online (talk face-to-face with a doctor through your mobile device or computer with webcam) is also available for USG employees.

Benefits enrollment for all eligible employees and their eligible dependents occurs each year during Open Enrollment. Changes to any benefits coverage outside of Open Enrollment can only be made as a result of a "Qualifying Event". If you have a Qualifying Event (marriage, birth of a child, adoption, divorce, etc.) or have any questions regarding health benefits coverage or changes, please contact the OneUSG Connect - Benefits Call Center at 1-844-5-USGBEN (1-844-587-4236) Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Effective January 1, 2024, employees enrolled in the USG healthcare plans and their covered dependents (age 18+) will be charged a $150 per tobacco user per month surcharge for using tobacco products.  Tobacco cessation programs are available at no cost to you and your dependents.

Also, beginning in 2024, a new surcharge of $150 per month is applied to employees who choose to cover their spouses in the USG healthcare plan if the employee's spouse works for an employer other than the USG and receives an offer of coverage from that employer.  This new surcharge was implemented in an effort to keep healthcare costs as low as possible for our employees and the State of Georgia's taxpayers.
