ITS Student Resources

Information Technology Services (ITS) offers free resources for students at Albany State University. Please take advantage of these free resources to assist in your academic excellence and student success.

On-Campus Computer Labs

The computer lab in the James Pendergrast Memorial Library (JPL), room 108 on East Campus is open to students 24/7. Please be sure to have your RAM ID to gain access to the lab.

In addition to our 24/7 lab, you also have access to 13 on-campus computer labs during standard hours. To learn more about these labs, their locations, availability and hours of operation, click here for more information.

You will have access to all standard ASU software from these computers, including applications such as the Microsoft Office 2019 suite, SPSS and Respondus Lockdown Browser.  Specialized course software (such as AutoCad), is available in specific computer labs and students are notified of these areas by their instructors.

In support of reducing the spread of COVID-19, the labs are socially distant compliant and keyboards/mice are sanitized on a regular basis. If you need access to these software’s while off-campus, please see the VDI (virtual computing) section below.

Microsoft Office Download

Microsoft Office 2019 is available to download for free on up to 5 devices. Students have access to Office 365 Education, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Microsoft Teams. Students can download  Microsoft Office on up to 5 devices. Click here to download.

  • Microsoft Word enables students to share documents with others and collaborate to develop essays and projects.

  • Microsoft Excel allows students to create spreadsheets and utilize various features to provide calculations, graphing tools, financial data and pivot tables for classwork.

  • Microsoft PowerPoint allows students to present and collaborate data and information by using text, diagrams with animation, images, and transitional effects, in the form of slides for presentations and assignments.

  • Microsoft OneNote provides students a tool to have a note-taking program for free-form information gathering and multi-user collaboration. It gathers students' notes, drawings, screen clippings, and audio commentaries.

  • Microsoft Teams can be used to create collaborative class spaces, provide a virtual meeting platform, facilitate learning with assignments and feedback, and lead live calls with students.

Student Laptop Loaner Program

Do you need a laptop to study for finals, to take to a conference, or if traveling off campus?  Faculty, staff and students are welcome to take part in the newly revamped IT Loaner program. Through this program, IT will loan an individual a piece of equipment (laptop, etc.) for their use on a temporary basis. To learn more or to create a reservation, click here for details.

Pharos Mobile Printing

Pharos Mobile Print is a service that provides students the ability to submit print jobs from their ASU email account or by uploading a document to the Print Center from their personal computer. Students can take advantage of this by submitting their print job from home and then retrieving the print job once on campus. Students can then visit any of the Pharos printers across either campus to pick up their print job(s). The cost for black/white copies are $.10 and color copies are $.25. Students must bring their RAM ID card and have sufficient funds (RamBucks) to login and retrieve your print job.
Click here to queue up your first print job.

VDI (Virtual Computing)

Students are able to login and use a virtual instance of a student lab computer from their own personal device. This gives students off-campus access to campus tools and resources such as SPSS, Rstudio and Lockdown browser.

  • SPSS Statistics software offers a range of advanced features, including ad hoc analysis, hypothesis testing and reporting.  The main features available for SPSS are creating tables and charts containing frequency counts or summary statistics over (groups of) cases and variables, running inferential statistics such as ANOVA, regression and factor analysis, saving data and output in a wide variety of file formats.

  • RStudio is a computer programming application that provides free, open source tools and software for data science to develop and share student’s work at scale.

  • LockDown Browser uses students' webcams to record students during online, non-proctored quizzes, and automatically detect behaviors that could indicate cheating.

Wireless Network Access

The ASU-SECURE wireless network is available throughout the East, West and Cordele campuses using your ASU credentials.

The EduRoam wireless network allows ASU students to use any other USG campus wireless networks using their ASURams account. The EDURoam wireless network is growing and is available on many college and university campuses throughout the U.S. and some other countries.
