Teacher Education
Welcome to the Albany State University's Department of Teacher Education!
The Teacher Education program offers the Bachelor of Science degrees leading to certification
in Elementary Education, Middle Grades Education, and Education with concentrations
in English Education, Health and Physical Education, Science Education, and Special
Education (Adaptive Curriculum). In addition to traditional degree and certification,
the program offers a fast track certification only program in a range of teaching
fields (excluding Elementary Education and Special Education). The Program also offers
Master of Education degrees that lead to certificate upgrades in Elementary Education,
Middle Grades Education, Special Education-General Curriculum, and Secondary Education
with concentrations in English, Mathematics, and Science. Additionally, candidates
who possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution may also earn T-4 certification
only in each of the respective fields. Current in-service teachers may increase their
marketability by adding endorsements to their Georgia Professional Standards Commission
(PSC) certificates. The Department offers PSC approved endorsements in Reading, Gifted
Education, K-5 Mathematics, and Online Learning.
The Teacher Education program embraces a culture of excellence and care. We have structured
our curriculum and field experiences to provide candidates with the knowledge, skills
and dispositions to become effective teachers and accomplished educators. We have
also created an atmosphere of tolerance that demonstrates to each candidate that he
or she is appreciated and his or her opinion is valued. As education is intertwined
with concepts of both nature and nurture, we strive to provide opportunities to model
these in the teaching and learning process to ensure candidates are prepared for today’s
diverse students and classrooms.
