Waivers and Releases
Waivers and Releases serve to minimize legal exposure to the Albany State University
(ASU) in the event of injury to a participant or property damage in connection with
a University-related trip, program, or activity. It is important that the Waiver or
Release used is specific to the particular trip, program, or activity planned, and
that each participant has an opportunity to review the Waiver and/or Release and ask
questions prior to signing. For individuals under the age of 18, a parent or legal
guardian must also sign the Waiver or Release.
ASU does not have enrolled students sign waivers and release forms for routine academic
activities that are part of their course requirements. Additionally, employees acting
in the course and scope of employment do not need to sign waivers. However, individuals,
including students/non-students/employees/non-employees, who are traveling for reasons
other than to fulfill academic or employment obligations at ASU will need to complete
the waiver anytime they are participating in university-sanctioned events or traveling
in university vehicles.
In accordance with the ASU Record Retention Policy, it is important that those involved
with organizing/planning voluntary activities, have each and every participant execute
an appropriate form and that the original signed form is kept safe within the organizing
units administrative office/ for the duration of the records retention schedule set
forth by the University System of Georgia’s Board of Regents located at http://www.usg.edu/records_management/schedules/.
