Albany State University and all satellite campuses will remain closed on Tuesday, September 12.

Per the Dougherty County EMA, Irma will impact Dougherty County as a hurricane. The specific intensity is still unknown. We can expect to, potentially, see up to 20" of rain in isolated locations. This storm is not anticipated to spawn any tornadoes in our area. Wind hazards are the most dangerous part of the system. Expect lots of trees to be downed and for there to be widespread, prolonged power outages.

All students remaining the residence halls are asked to Shelter in Place while the storm is coming through the area and take the following steps:

  1. Plan for food and or dining.
    1. TODAY, Sunday, Sept. 10
      1. The Dining Halls on both campuses will be open from 5 p.m. to 6:30 pm.
    2. Monday, Sept. 11
      1. ASUPD will deliver meals to the residence halls between 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
      2. Weather permitting, the Dining Halls on both campuses will be open from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
      3. If the Dining Halls are not able to open, ASUPD will deliver meals to the residence halls from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
    3. Tuesday, Sept. 12
      1. Dining options will be updated and communicated based on the weather forecast.
  2. Make sure your cell phones are charged and batteries are in flash lights.
  3. Don't leave electrical equipment unattended.
  4. Keep your doors closed and locked.

ASUPD personnel will be on campus the entire time period. Any additional closures will be communicated via the university website, email, and social media. Updates will also be provided to local media outlets.

In the event of an emergency, ASUPD will send updates through our emergency alert system.

We will continue to update the campus community throughout the storm period.
