Why did you choose ASU?
I transferred to ASU from Iowa to continue playing soccer for my coach, Jared Beauchamp. I have known him for 5 years, and he has always seen potential in me, even though I couldn’t see it for myself at times. Jared is a great coach that I would play for again if given the opportunity.

What motivated you to learn more about your field?
My mom is a nurse, and I knew that I wanted to do something similar with the sciences. I tried being a CNA and vet tech and found that I enjoy being in a lab.

What do you love most about your chosen profession?
I enjoy being able to come to the lab and do different tasks every day. There is no wrong approach when doing research and finding solutions. When you find a solution that seems to work, it is rewarding to share progress with people within the field.

Who has made the biggest impact on you, and who do you consider to be a role model at ASU?
Dr. Ashok Jain has been a great mentor to me. I transferred to Albany State to start my junior year here. After taking one of his classes during my first semester here, he took me under his wing and found opportunities for me, like shadowing at Chehaw Park and Zoo.

What advice would you give to other ASU students?
Find a mentor. The sooner you find a mentor, the sooner you can have someone to guide you through school and your career.

What would you say to a high school student about choosing ASU to further their education?
Take advantage of the opportunities as there are ways ASU can help you financially continue your education. Another important thing is to find a supportive group of friends that push you to be better each day. A support group will help you through the many struggles of being a young student away from your family.
