Transfer Student Spotlight: Jordan Boisseau
Jordan Boisseau is a native of Atlanta, Georgia and a junior majoring in health and human performance with a concentration in Sports Medicine at Albany State University (ASU).
Why did you choose ASU?
I chose ASU because of how highly respected the institution is and my interested based
on how the program has been described. When I asked other people for their opinions
on the university, I received nothing but encouraging remarks that aided in my decision.
What motivated you to learn more about that field?
I believe that my purpose is to extend as much help as I can throughout the African
American sports community, and this serves as my motivation.
What do you love most about your chosen field?
I love the fact that I can get closer to making a life changing impact in our community.
I’m a hands-on student, so being able to apply so much of what I have learned already
is a huge plus for me!
What obstacles have you had to overcome to progress as a college student?
I’ve had to break some habits that were holding me back from being as successful as
I could have been. Meaning, I had to learn how to study properly and ask for help
when needed it instead of assuming that I had to figure it out on my own.
What do you enjoy about being a student at ASU?
I love just how personal it feels. Sometimes you can go off to school and feel like
you don’t know where to start or who to get to know first, but ASU allows plenty of
opportunities for us as students to mingle and get to know one another while feeling
comfortable and welcomed, pretty much like one big family!
Who has made the most significant impact on you at ASU?
My gospel choir family has made the biggest impact on me both spiritually and mentally.
As soon as I joined, I was welcomed with open arms, and a semester later, I’m more
than grateful to say that they saw fit for me to be in a leadership role.
What advice would you give to students interested in transferring to ASU?
Be open and come in with a strong mindset. You must be open to networking and strong
minded to stay grounded as a student and a young adult. Always remember that someone
is there when you need it and don’t hesitate to ask for help!
