Transfer Student Spotlight: Kristie Aldridge
Kristie Aldridge is a native of Spanish Fort, Alabama and a junior pursuing an associate of science in nursing at Albany State University (ASU).
Why did you choose ASU?
When I found out Albany State offered a flexible program, I knew it was the one. Now,
I am excited to be able to balance work, home, and school-life while advancing my
education.
What do you enjoy about being a student at ASU?
Imagine having the flexibility to learn your way – that's what my experience at the
university has been. With the online and hybrid classes provided, I have the power
to choose and have my unique learning style and schedule accommodated.
What motivated you to learn more about your field?
I am currently working as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) which in this area carries
a lot of limitations on where I can work and what I can do. By furthering my education,
I can have more options to work in labor and delivery or emergency room/intensive
care unit settings.
What do you love most about your chosen field?
I love helping others and nursing is fundamentally about caring for people. The ability
to make a positive impact on patients’ lives can be incredibly fulfilling and nursing
offers a multitude of specialties that I am passionate about.
What obstacles have you had to overcome to progress as a college student?
Balancing school, work, and parenting as a single mother can be incredibly challenging
especially in the economy we live in today. Learning to budget and balance everything
out was an important part of my success.
Who made the most significant impact on you at ASU?
My incredible instructors, Ms. Hughes and Ms. Rhodes, have truly left an indelible
mark on my journey at ASU.
What advice would you give to students interested in transferring to ASU?
Reach out and don’t be afraid to connect with your peers, especially those majoring
in the same field as you, to utilize your resources. Most importantly, be open to
new experiences. Take advantage of the great opportunities that expand on your personal
growth.
