What legacy do you hope to leave behind as President of your organization?

I hope to leave behind a legacy of advocates who care about mental health as much as I do. I want them to find new and creative ways to change the stigma about mental health in a positive light. I hope the next president comes in after me and falls in love with the organization just as much as I did.

Share a memory where an event your organization hosted had an impact on the ASU campus.

My favorite memory would be how we organized a Sexual Assault Awareness March, in less than 24 hours, to communicate the importance of speaking up and spreading awareness about sexual assault. We provided campus resources so students could know where to go. We were able to buy art supplies so students could make signs and get the Albany State University Police Department, Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Lindsay, Title IX, and Counseling and Accessibility services to walk and speak at the march as well. This event taught me that when it came to a matter on campus, Albany State can come together as a Ramily.

Why did you choose ASU?

I chose Albany State University because of its enriched history. Knowing that you can have traumatic things happen but still turn out resilient means a lot to me. Albany State has a great network for during and after college life. You will always be able to know a Golden Ram when you see one.

What initiatives or projects are you proud of establishing here at ASU?

I am proud to have established my love for being a student leader. Being able to be dependable for students and staff means the world to me. You can make an impact on your campus by yourself or with a group of people. I hope people can see campus life is what you make it and continue to network.

In a few words, explain the purpose of your organization and the history behind it.

Active Minds is a mental health and suicide prevention organization focusing on the eight wellness dimensions for student morale (emotional, occupational, intellectual, environmental, financial, social, physical, and spiritual). Our mission is to speak openly about mental health and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.

Why did you choose your major and how do you plan on using it?

I chose my major because of my love of helping people and sports. I was able to gain experience in high school and at Albany State University, which heightened my love for the career choice. Having representation is another key factor in why I chose this career path. There are more men in athletic training than women, so I wanted to change the narrative on that. My goal is to become the Athletic Trainer for the National Football League (NFL).

What motivated you to join your organization?

What motivated me to join Active Minds was being able to talk about mental health and how to better it. I didn't know where to start or who to talk to about the importance of it, but I knew Active Minds was the way to begin. It has allowed me to meet amazing people from different places and share my story with others.
