Albany State University President Marion Ross Fedrick welcomed Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) president, Dr. Harry L. Williams and Founder, Dr. Joyce N. Payne to campus on Monday, Feb. 17. Williams and Payne visited the Albany State University Center for Educational Opportunity (CEO). The TMCF Center for Advancing Opportunity provides funding for the center.

TMCF Visit

The CEO was established in April 2018 by founding director, Dr. Kathaleena Monds. “The visit provided a chance to raise our sponsor’s institutional awareness, share our infrastructure and partnerships, successes and challenges,” said Monds.

The CEO’s mission is to advance educational research in order to strengthen and empower fragile communities from the bottom up. Fragile communities face barriers to opportunity, including high levels of poverty, low-performing schools, inequities in law enforcement and limited economic opportunities. The center also offer grants for undergraduate students, graduate students and faculty researchers to conduct action-based research projects aimed at supporting educational opportunities in fragile communities. Awards range from $5,000 – $10,000 and proposals are accepted year round.
